The UK-based bookmaker Betfred has extended its partnership with Scientific Games in order to launch online and land-based betting in the state of Colorado.

The extended partnership

Under the extended partnership, Betfred has rolled out Scientific Games’ OpenSports sports betting solutions, as well as a selection of self-service sports betting terminals at the Saratoga Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado.

The UK-based operator will also launch Scientific Games’ digital services in time for the 2020-21 NFL season, which is set to kick off in September. Scientific Games will also provide Betfred with its Open Platform player account management system for use in Colorado.

Betfred in the US

In July 2019, Betfred marked its entrance into the US through a partnership with the Elite Casino Resort-owned Grand Falls Casino in Iowa. The operator launched its first US sportsbook in Iowa in late January.

Since entering the market, Betfred has established a presence in Iowa, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.

Betfred is partnered with Wind Creek Casino land-based and online sports betting in the state of Pennsylvania. The operator has also selected Scientific Games to power its sports betting operations in the Keystone State.

In January, Betfred secured entry into Colorado’s sports betting market via a partnership with the Saratoga Casino property in Black Hawk.

Earlier this week, the NFL’s Denver Broncos announced a partnership with the UK-based sports betting operator. Under the deal Betfred will become an official partner of the team and open a sports betting lounge outside of Empower Field at the southern end of the Mile High Stadium in time for the 2020 season.

Sports betting in Colorado

The Centennial State narrowly legalized sports betting in November 2019 after voters approved the sports betting measure through a referendum.

Like New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Indiana, Colorado law allows sports bettors to register online accounts remotely from anywhere within state lines. When it comes to in-person wagering, only three towns in the state have been granted approval to offer in-person betting.

Colorado’s sports betting market went live on 1 May with the launch of four sportsbooks during the coronavirus pandemic. On 1 May, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetRivers and BetMGM launched their online sportsbooks in the state. Monarch Casino Resort’s launched its BetMonarch app on 14 May, followed by Fox Bet a week later.

According to Colorado’s Department of Revenue, Colorado’s sports betting handle hit $25.5m in the first month of legal sports betting in the state.
