DraftKings inks partnership with the NBA

The NBA has partnered with another gambling company for sports betting.

Yesterday, the daily fantasy provider turned sportsbook operator DraftKings, announced a partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA) for sports betting.

With this partnership, DraftKings Sportsbook will become an “authorized sports betting operator” of the NBA.

The NBA has also struck partnerships with several other gambling companies including MGM Resorts, Fox Bet, FanDuel and William Hill.

A closer look at the deal

According to the press statement, the partnership will span multiple years and DraftKings will have access to official NBA data.

The sportsbook operator will also be able to display official NBA branding on the DraftKings betting app and at land-based sportsbooks.

On top of this, DraftKings and the NBA will work together to ensure the integrity of the NBA’s games.

Scott Kaufman-Ross, senior vice president and head of fantasy & gaming at the NBA, said: “We are excited to team with DraftKings, which has established itself as one of the leaders in the sports betting landscape in the US and has a passionate NBA following.

“Our partnership will provide our fans with an authentic and enhanced gaming experience and help us further protect the integrity of our games.”

Ezra Kucharz, chief business officer at DraftKings, said: “NBA games are among the most captivating, dramatic and widely-consumed sports entertainment products globally, and the advocacy of the league around legal sports betting further demonstrates its consistent foresight to innovate for the betterment of the fan experience.

“The correlation between sports betting and fan engagement is proven, and we look forward to the opportunities that being an authorized gaming operator of the NBA will unlock for consumers.”

DraftKings in the US

DraftKings initially began as a daily fantasy sports provider and has now transitioned into a multi-vertical gambling operator.

DraftKings entered the US sports betting market last year when it became the first sportsbook to launch a mobile app in the state of New Jersey. DraftKings also operates the land-based sportsbook at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City.

The DraftKings Sportsbook app is also available in West Virginia and in early October, DraftKings launched its mobile sports betting app in Indiana.

Last week, DraftKings received approval to launch its online sportsbook in Pennsylvania and begun the online sportsbook testing process on Monday 4 November.

In New York, DraftKings runs land-based sportsbook operations at Del Lago Resort. DraftKings also runs land-based sportsbook operations in Mississippi at the Scarlet Pearl Casino in Biloxi.
