Entain announces new CEO

Entain has announced that Jette Nygaard-Andersen will take over as the company’s CEO with immediate effect.

Nygaard-Andersen will replace former company CEO Shay Segev, who is taking up a new role at sports entertainment platform DAZN.

Prior to stepping into her new role, Nygaard-Andersen had already been a part of the Entain board since 2019.

“Very excited”

Commenting on her new role as the CEO of the gaming giant, Nygaard-Andersen said the following.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity of continuing the extraordinary momentum that Entain has in its existing markets, as well as helping it enter new regulated markets and reach new audiences.

“I am deeply wedded to Entain’s commitment to providing industry-leading levels of player protection, and to its philosophy that the most sustainable business in our industry will be the most successful business in our industry.”

Entain Chairman Barry Gibson also spoke about the appointment.

He said:

“We are extremely fortunate to have such an outstanding candidate and ready-made CEO in Jette.

“She is already deeply immersed in Entain’s strategy, and clearly shares our ambition to be the world leader in sports betting and gaming entertainment.”

Extensive experience

Nygaard-Andersen has more than two decades of experience as a leader in multiple industries. These are spread across entertainment, sport, digital business, and media.

She joined Entain two years ago as an independent non-executive director, where she remained until stepping up to the CEO position.

The new Entain Chief Executive has had two separate spells with Modern Times Group (MTG), in which she had various leadership roles. She has also held CEO roles at both New Media and Viasat.

Former CEO Segev will be available until July to assist with the transition process.

More new appointments for Entain

Entain has also announced that Rob Wood will become the company’s Deputy Chief Executive. He similarly was already working for the company, holding a position as Chief Financial Officer.

Wood will continue as the CFO in addition to his new position. He has been Entain’s CFO since March 2019.

Commenting on Wood’s appointment, Gibson said:

“Rob is extremely well regarded internally and externally, and the additional responsibilities will enable him to further develop his operational skills as well as overseeing a key tenet of our growth ambitions through M&A.”

Entain will also appoint Chief Operating Officer Sandeep Tiku on its board of directors later in 2021.

Entertain has also announced its full-year financial results for the year just gone. A 28% rise in online gaming revenue looks like it will contribute to 1% net gaming revenue. Revenue in its UK and European markets, however, declined.
