Genius Sports Group has expanded its portfolio of partners after partnering with the American Hockey League.
Data and technology provider, Genius Sports Group, has entered into a long-term data and streaming agreement with the American Hockey League (AHL), which is the main development league for the National Hockey League (NHL).
What’s covered in the deal?
Under the deal, Genius Sports will serve as the AHL’s official data and streaming partner for sports betting purposes.
The agreement grants Genius exclusive rights to capture real-time team and player statistics from inside the AHL’s 31 arenas. Genius will also have the ability to deliver data and live streams for sports wagering purposes to betting operators in the US and across the globe.
According to the announcement, Genius will offer live broadcasts for more than 1,200 AHL events a year. With this latest partnership, Genius’ portfolio of sporting events now includes over 240,000 events each year.
Chris Nikolis, EVP, Business for the AHL said: “We are excited about our partnership with Genius Sports. Our goal is to deliver the excitement and quality of AHL hockey to fans worldwide and to engage with them as effectively in the manner that suits them best. Genius Sports is an industry leader and we look forward to a long and successful relationship.”
Sean Conroy, Commercial Partnerships Director of Genius Sports Group, said: “This partnership exemplifies the unique value we deliver to our sports and sportsbook partners in the US and worldwide. With the right technology partner, sports leagues can proactively engage with the regulated betting industry to drive new revenues, increase engagement and expand their global audience. Simultaneously, our sportsbook partners benefit from our ever-expanding portfolio of premium data and video content.
“With regulated betting continuing to spread across the US, the AHL has recognized a unique opportunity to accelerate its global growth and we are excited to be working alongside such a dynamic league.”
Another big play for Genius
The agreement between Genius and the AHL marks the data provider’s latest play to expand its product offering.
Earlier this week, Genius agreed a partnership with Scientific Games which will see the data company provide in-game content to Scientific Games and its betting customers.
Prior to this, Genius entered multiple data and streaming deals with several sports leagues including the Polish Basketball Association, Polish Basketball League, basketball’s Liga MX in Mexico and the Argentine Football Association.
Earlier this year Genius also struck a partnership with the North American startup football league, the XFL.
