MGM Resorts and BetMGM announce responsible gambling commitment

MGM Resorts International and BetMGM announced a unified commitment to promote responsible gambling.

The entities will also make available the tools needed to help players make better decisions while gambling.

MGM Resorts and BetMGM have also joined the National Council on Problem Gambling to promote Problem Gambling Awareness Month in March.

How will MGM Resorts and BetMGM promote responsible gambling?

Each week, the companies’ employees will take part in a weekly educational series. This will be provided by EPIC Risk, a risk mitigation company based in the UK. Employees will receive different perspectives on problem gambling. They will also gain insights on the operator’s role in preventing these issues from arising.

BetMGM will also promote the Eighth Annual Gambling Disorder Screening Day. This is led by the Harvard Medical School faculty at the Division on Addiction, Cambridge Health Alliance.

Various resources are provided through the screening day. Included in these is a tool which allows operators to screen online users and assess their risk level for gambling-related harm.

BetMGM will also offer additional resources for responsible gambling through its mobile app, available to users in licensed jurisdictions.

“A long and storied history of supporting responsible gambling efforts”

MGM Resorts Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer said the following about the responsible gambling initiative: “MGM Resorts has a long and storied history of supporting responsible gaming efforts and we are proud to support the NCPG’s efforts in addressing problem gambling.

“Our team members stand ready to assist guests in helping them understand the risks, where to get help, and ultimately, how to make sure that gambling remains fun.”

Meanwhile, BetMGM Responsible Gambling Program Manager Richard Taylor said: “We’re committed to providing BetMGM employees with the responsible gambling tools, information, and empowerment they need to ensure the highest level of customer service and care possible.

“Throughout the month they’ll hear from experts about the nature of problem gambling, the importance of research and policy, and the role they can play in preventing problem gambling. We’re pleased to collaborate on this critical initiative.”

Other MGM responsible gambling initiatives

Another way that MGM Resorts has contributed to responsible gambling is through GameSense. The program was developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) in 2017, and licensed in the same year.

GameSense has been integrated with numerous MGM casinos and sportsbooks. The program aims to give players the means to keep gambling fun but safe, through education and proactive interactions.
