MGM to introduce on-site testing for COVID-19

Betting and hospitality company MGM Resorts has announced that it will introduce on-site testing for COVID-19.

The company hopes that the new health and safety measure will enable in-person business meetings to return on its premises.

MGM Resorts suffered a significant drop in revenue last year due to the pandemic, with restrictions hitting many of its hotels and casinos.

Testing and moving forward

The COVID-19 testing will be implemented at all of MGM Resorts’ venues in Las Vegas. Nevada has increased capacity limits, with the company now looking to get meetings back to the state.

There are a variety of on-site testing choices for visitors. The first is the standard RT-PCR test, which brings back results within 24 and 72 hours.

Visitors will also have the chance to take a fast molecular (NAAT) test, with results returned in around 20 minutes. A rapid antigen test is also available, and individuals will receive their results for these in 20-30 minutes.

All times are dependent on the availability in labs to process tests.

In-room testing prices will cost between $140 and $230, depending on the type of test taken.

Creating a robust health and safety strategy

MGM Resorts CEO and President Bill Hornbuckle commented on the on-site COVID-19 testing initiative. He said: “Convene with Confidence is a result of close consultation with health experts and our increased focus on leveraging innovation to not only provide a better guest experience – but a safer one as well.

“MGM Resorts has long been at the forefront of the rapidly evolving hospitality and events industries. We are confident we’ve built a program that enables companies to meet in person, giving them peace of mind as they do so.”

“Meetings and conventions are critical to our company and to Las Vegas”

MGM endured a difficult 2020. Revenue dropped to $5.16 billion, representing a 60% fall. Moreover, the company lost $1.03 billion over the course of the year.

MGM Resorts Senior Vice President and Chief Sales Officer Stephanie Glanzer also spoke about the Convene with Confidence program, designed to improve customer safety at premises.

She said: “Meetings and conventions are critical to our company and to Las Vegas, in addition to the organizations putting on these programs.

“Developing Convene with Confidence, a completely customizable program, with multiple options for planners and attendees, reflects our deep commitment to the future health of the meetings industry.”
