Mississippi sportsbooks had their strongest month since launch in October.
According to figures from the Mississippi Gaming Commission (MGC) sportsbooks in the state processed $48m in sports wagers in October, up from the $37.9m wagered in September.
Mississippi’s sports betting revenue also hit $12.3m in October, up from the $5.6m generated in September. October’s revenue also represents a massive increase on the $1.2m in revenue generated in October 2018.
Breaking down the figures
The MGC places Mississippi’s casino sportsbooks into three different categories based on their location – coastal, central and northern.
Once again, Mississippi’s coastal sportsbooks saw the most action. Bettors in the state wagered a total of $33.4m at sportsbooks on the coast, accounting for 69.6% of the state’s total handle. Coastal sportsbooks also generated more than $10m in revenue, 81.6% of the state’s total revenue.
Sportsbooks in the northern region were the second-highest performing venues in the state after bettors wagered $9.1m at Mississippi’s northern sportsbooks. In terms of revenue, the northern sportsbooks held onto just $1.2m.
The state’s central sportsbooks came in third place after generating just 986,398 in revenue from $5.4m in sports bets.
Football continues to dominate
Once again, football was the most popular sport to bet on in October. Mississippi’s sportsbooks processed a combined total of $28m in football wagers and held onto $3.4m.
Baseball bets accounted for $11.4m of Mississippi’s total betting handle and $6.5m of the state’s total revenue.
Parlay cards were also very popular accounting for $4.8m of the state’s total sports wagering handle. Mississippi’s Sportsbooks managed to generate just $948,395 from parlay card wagers.
Basketball bets contributed just $2m to the state’s total betting handle and just over $1m to the overall betting revenue in October.
