Oregon Lottery launches mobile sports betting app

Oregon is officially the first West-Coast state with legal mobile sports betting.

On Wednesday, the Oregon Lottery officially launched its mobile sports betting app “Scoreboard,” making it the first state in the region, outside of Nevada, to offer state-wide mobile betting.

With the launch of the Scoreboard app, Oregon is the latest state to launch mobile sports betting operations. Oregon’s residents and visitors will be able to place sports wagers via mobile devices from anywhere within the state.

Bettors with Apple devices can download the app via the App Store while Android users can download the app using a direct link found on the Oregon Lottery’s website. Scoreboard can also be accessed via the Oregon Lottery’s website on desktop computers and tablets.

Online and Mobile betting finally comes to Oregon

The launch of the Oregon Lottery sports betting app has been in the works for several months now. Back in June, the state lottery signed a contract making SBTech the supplier for the state lottery’s sports betting platform.

The app was initially scheduled to launch in the opening weeks of football season but was delayed to make sure it would run smoothly.

Up until now, bettors in the state have been restricted to using the land-based sportsbook at the Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln. The tribal casino launched sports betting in late August, and up until now, has been the only legal sports betting option on the West Coast, outside of Nevada.

Sports betting in Oregon

Prior to the passage of the professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), Oregon, Nevada, Montana and Delaware already offered a form of legal sports betting. The existing sports betting laws were ‘grandfathered’ in under PASPA allowing Oregon, and the other states, to continue to offer sports betting even after PASPA became law in 1992.

Oregon’s sports betting offering came in the form of its Sports Action parlay game which was shut down in 2007.

With the launch of mobile and online betting in the Beaver State, Oregon is the latest state to offer online and mobile betting. Mobile and online sports betting is currently available in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Iowa, Indiana, Nevada and Rhode Island.
