Superbowl LX Preview

The curtain is about to close on another gruelling NFL season and the New England Patriots will take on the Seattle Seahawks at Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California. UK NFL fans can watch the game free-to-air on Channel 5 from 10.30pm, while coverage starts at 10pm on Sky Sports Main Event/NFL and DAZN’s NFL Game Pass.

Setting The Scene

Both New England and Seattle finished with 14-3 records in the regular season, but it was the latter that did enough to secure the No.1 seed in their conference and earned a bye in round one of the playoffs.They have since beaten the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 and the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 to reach the showpiece event. The New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Chargers 16-3, the Houston Texans 28-16 and the Denver Broncos 10-7 to book their spot in Super Bowl LX.

Seattle are worthy favourites for Sunday’s finale and they should have too much firepower for Mike Vrabel’s team. The New England Patriots’ schedule this season was favourable to say the least, and they have struggled to rack up points in the playoffs. They failed to surpass 20 points in two games and they face the best defence in the NFL in the regular season in terms of points conceded, with Mike Macdonald’s team allowing only 17.2 per game. Seattle scored 0.4 points fewer per game than the Patriots on offence, but they have been more explosive in the playoffs and have the personnel to score from anywhere.

Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III should see plenty of the ball as back-up Zach Charbonnet is injured. Walker III registered only five touchdowns during the regular season, but he has scored four in two playoff games, including a hat-trick against the 49ers. He is Seattle’s main man in the red zone, so he could easily score the first touchdown if Macdonald’s team makes a good start. 

Walker III should also be influential as a receiver, as he has secured 25 receiving yards or more in four of his last five appearances. Like Maye, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold will need to use his legs to avoid pressure and he can run for at least six yards on Sunday. Seattle’s QB rushed for nine yards against the Rams in their 31-27 success and the Seahawks have used him as a runner a lot more in the second half of the season. Darnold has rushed for five yards or more in five of his last seven appearances and he is expected to repeat that feat.
