You need to match all six numbers to scoop the jackpot. However, you can still become a millionaire by matching just the 5 numbers from the main draw – this pays a guaranteed $1,000,000. With up to nine ways to win the powerball, the odds of winning any prize are around 4%.
Mega Millions
Just like the US Powerball Lottery, the Mega Millions jackpot starts at $40 million and players have a 1 in 24 chance of winning. Players also select two sets of numbers — 5 numbers between 1 and 70 and 1 mega ball number between 1 and 25— and win the jackpot when all six numbers match.
While there are two draws each week— one on a Tuesday and the other on a Friday— there is a one in over 3 million chance of winning the Grand Prize, which means there are plenty of jackpot rollovers throughout the year. The Mega Millions jackpot reached a mammoth $635,000,000 in 2012.
Lotto America
The new Lotto America restarted in 2017, picking up where its original format left off. The lottery offers uncapped jackpots which start at $2 million, but rollover each week. In March 2018 the jackpot rolled over to almost $23 million.
There are nine ways to win a cash prize in this draw, and each prize— except the Grand Prize— is set. Players select five numbers, ranging from 1 to 52 for the red balls and one number between 1 and 10 for the Lotto America Star Ball. Once again, participants have the choice to select their own lucky numbers or have them randomly selected.
Lotto America players must match all six balls to win the Grand Prize, but the odds of winning any prize in the draw are 1 in 9.63. For players looking to boost their winnings, playing the Lotto America All Star Bonus can multiply your prize by 2, 3, 4 or 5 time- with the exception of the Grand Prize.
