Last updated: · By Anthony Colwell
Haiti return to the World Cup for the first time since 1974 — a 52-year wait ended by the 2-0 win over Nicaragua in November 2025, played in Curaçao because of the Port-au-Prince security crisis. Sébastien Migné's Grenadiers are headlined by Wolves midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, all-time top scorer Duckens Nazon and Sunderland forward Wilson Isidor, drawn into Group C with Brazil, Morocco and Scotland.

World Cup 2026 group and fixtures

Haiti were drawn into Group C at World Cup 2026 alongside Brazil, Morocco and Scotland. The Scotland opener at Gillette Stadium on 13 June is the first-ever meeting between the two nations and Haiti’s most realistic chance of taking points; Brazil in Philadelphia is the marquee fixture against the five-time champions; Morocco in Atlanta closes the group against the 2022 semi-finalists.

Haiti World Cup 2026 squad

The squad below reflects Migné’s selection from the March 2026 friendlies in Toronto against Tunisia and Iceland. The group is heavily diaspora-based — France, the US, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands and the MLS / USL pyramid — with Wolves midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde the headline name. Captain Johny Placide anchors the side from goal; Duckens Nazon is the all-time top scorer; Wilson Isidor brings Premier League pace. The final 26-man tournament squad will be confirmed in late May / early June 2026.

How Haiti will play

Migné’s default is a compact 4-2-3-1 with a low block, fast vertical transitions and direct wide running on the counter. Bellegarde and Pierre screen the back four and run the set-piece deliveries; Casimir works the No 10 channel; Providence, Deedson and Isidor stretch defences. Against Brazil, expect Migné to drop into a 5-3-2 or 5-4-1 with Delcroix sliding in as the third centre-back.

The strength is athleticism and counter-attacking pace. Bellegarde brings genuine top-five-leagues quality, Isidor’s searing pace makes him Haiti’s most credible threat to break a high line, and Nazon — Haiti’s all-time leading scorer with 44 goals — was top scorer in CONCACAF qualifying with six. Set-piece delivery from Bellegarde is the most-realistic source of a goal against Brazil or Morocco.

The weakness is squad depth and top-flight experience. Outside Bellegarde, Isidor and Pierrot, the squad plays in modest European and MLS leagues. The political situation means there is no genuine home crowd advantage — every “home” qualifier was played in Curaçao. Migné himself has reportedly never set foot in Haiti during his tenure due to the security crisis. The defining tactical battle is Scotland in the opener: Haiti’s most-realistic chance of taking points, and a first-ever fixture between the two nations.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1)

Haiti predicted XI for World Cup 2026 in a 4-2-3-1 formation

Predicted starting XI — 4-2-3-1. Captain: Johny Placide.

Manager: Sébastien Migné

Migné took the Haiti job in mid-2024 after spells with Kenya, Congo and Equatorial Guinea. The 52-year-old Frenchman has reportedly never set foot in Haiti during his tenure due to the security crisis in Port-au-Prince — he works with the squad in Curaçao and at away camps. CONCACAF qualifying yielded direct qualification through Third Round Group C, with Haiti losing only once in six matches and finishing ahead of Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. The mandate is to honour Manno Sanon’s 1974 legacy with another moment to make a fractured nation proud.

Captain: Johny Placide

Placide captains Haiti from goal at French Ligue 2 club SC Bastia. The 37-year-old has accumulated around 79 caps across two decades and is the longest-serving senior international in the squad. Anchored Migné’s defence through the entire CONCACAF qualifying campaign without ever playing a “home” qualifier on home soil — every Haiti home fixture was relocated to Curaçao because of the Port-au-Prince security situation.

Haiti players to watch at World Cup 2026

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde — Central midfielder, Wolverhampton Wanderers

Premier League regular who switched allegiance from France to Haiti in August 2025. Brings Europe’s-top-five-league quality to Migné’s midfield as the team’s best technician, set-piece taker and game-controller — the player Haiti most need to stay fit.

Duckens Nazon — Forward, Esteghlal

Haiti’s all-time leading scorer with 44 goals. The 31-year-old journeyman striker — ex-Coventry, Wolves academy, Sochaux — was top scorer in CONCACAF qualifying with six goals and a name worth a hard look in the Golden Boot market at long odds.

Wilson Isidor — Forward, Sunderland

French-born striker who chose Haiti after starring in Sunderland’s Premier League promotion campaign. High-athleticism transition weapon: searing pace and direct running make him Haiti’s most credible threat to break a high line.

Frantzdy Pierrot — Forward, Çaykur Rizespor (loan from AEK Athens)

Powerful Süper Lig centre-forward who acts as the squad’s aerial reference point. Long-serving Grenadier who scored regularly during qualifying and offers Migné a Plan-B target-man profile alongside Nazon and Isidor.

Hannes Delcroix — Centre-back, FC Lugano

Belgian-born, Haitian-raised centre-back with Anderlecht and Burnley pedigree. The most experienced top-flight defender in the squad and the organiser of Migné’s back line — versatile enough to slot in as a left-back or in a back three.

How Haiti qualified for World Cup 2026

Haiti topped CONCACAF Third Round Group C with 13 points from six matches — P6 W4 D1 L1, GF12 GA6 — finishing ahead of Honduras, Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Duckens Nazon led the scoring chart with six goals; direct qualification was sealed with a 2-0 home win over Nicaragua on 18 November 2025. Every Haiti “home” fixture across the campaign was played in Curaçao because of the political and security situation in Port-au-Prince.

The standout result was the 2-0 win over Nicaragua that sealed qualification — and ended a 52-year absence from the World Cup. The setback came in October: a 0-3 away defeat to Honduras in Tegucigalpa, the only loss of the third-round campaign. The November window — wins over Costa Rica and Nicaragua — settled the group definitively.

Haiti’s World Cup history

Haiti’s only previous World Cup was West Germany 1974 — three group-stage games, three defeats (Italy 3-1, Poland 7-0, Argentina 4-1), but a moment of national football immortality through Manno Sanon’s goal against Italy. The 52-year wait ends in 2026, making Les Grenadiers one of the great returning stories of the tournament.

The defining Haitian moment is Sanon’s 1974 strike. On 15 June 1974 in Munich, Emmanuel ‘Manno’ Sanon raced clear and slotted past Dino Zoff to put Haiti 1-0 up against Italy on their World Cup debut. The goal ended Zoff’s then-world-record 1142-minute international clean sheet. Italy recovered to win 3-1, but Sanon’s strike remains the defining image of Haitian football — and the lodestar for the 2026 generation.

Haiti’s recent form

Last five senior internationals (most recent first):

  • 31 Mar 2026 — Iceland — 1-1 D — Friendly (BMO Field, Toronto)
  • 28 Mar 2026 — Tunisia — 0-1 L — Friendly (BMO Field, Toronto)
  • 18 Nov 2025 — Nicaragua — 2-0 W — WC qualifying (qualification sealed)
  • 13 Nov 2025 — Costa Rica — 1-0 W — WC qualifying
  • 13 Oct 2025 — Honduras — 0-3 L — WC qualifying (Tegucigalpa)

Mixed form heading into the tournament — the November qualifying double-header was excellent, the March friendlies in Toronto less so. Migné has eight weeks to find the rhythm before the Scotland opener.

Haiti World Cup 2026 odds

Haiti are 3000/1 with bet365 to win the World Cup outright — joint-longest price on the board and a fair reflection of the gap between Group C’s seeds and Les Grenadiers. They sit at the very bottom of the World Cup winner odds board. Group L is essentially out of reach: 150/1 to top it, 10/1 to qualify in the top two — the longest reach-last-32 price of any team in the tournament. The realistic target is a draw against Scotland and an honourable Brazil performance.

Head-to-head record

Haiti vs Brazil

One previous senior meeting — Brazil 6-0 Haiti, the ‘Match of Peace’ friendly in Port-au-Prince on 18 August 2004, organised to support the UN MINUSTAH peacekeeping mission. Ronaldinho scored a hat-trick. The 19 June 2026 group game in Philadelphia is the first competitive meeting between the two nations.

Haiti vs Morocco

No widely-recorded competitive senior men’s meeting between the two nations. The 24 June 2026 group fixture at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will effectively be their first meaningful encounter at senior men’s level.

Haiti vs Scotland

The first-ever senior meeting between the two nations. The 13 June 2026 group opener at Gillette Stadium is a brand-new fixture for both — and the most-realistic chance of Haiti taking points from Group C.
