A 48-team World Cup changes the maths. More games, more markets, longer knockout runs — and a qualification pool wide enough that Cape Verde and Curaçao are playing in the group stage for the first time.

This page covers the UK sportsbooks taking World Cup 2026 action, where the outright market sits, how the new format reshapes group betting, and every BBC and ITV kick-off time.

The tournament runs from 11 June to 19 July 2026 across 16 cities in Canada, Mexico and the United States. The opening match is at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City; the final is at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.

Outright Odds

World Cup 2026 Outright Odds

The outright market opened on most UK books within 48 hours of the Argentina v France final in Qatar. Prices have moved through three full qualifying cycles since, and the order at the top has firmed up as the draw has been completed.

Current outright favourites

The table below shows current best UK prices on the leading contenders. Odds move through the tournament — check each operator on the page above for the live price and follow the changes on our full World Cup 2026 Winners Odds tracker page.

What to look for in the outright market

The 48-team format favours the top seeds. Under the new structure, group winners and runners-up both enter a Round of 32 before the traditional knockout bracket. That means the top-seeded teams play one extra knockout game — but against much weaker opposition than the old Round of 16 draw produced. Expect the favourites to compound value: the implied win probability of the top four is likely underpriced by 3–5% relative to historical base rates.

Mid-band European sides are overpriced. Netherlands, Portugal and Germany benefit the most from the additional knockout game, because the extra round disproportionately hurts sides that previously got a soft Round of 16 draw. If you want value in the 12/1–25/1 bracket, this is where it sits.

Host advantage is limited at three countries. Historically the host nation has won six of 22 World Cups. With three hosts, none gets the travel, climate or crowd advantage a single host traditionally enjoys — and US travel between Seattle, Miami, New York and Kansas City is brutal. Discount short prices on the USA accordingly.

Best World Cup Betting Sites Reviewed

Every UKGC-licensed sportsbook will price World Cup 2026 — the differences are in market depth, bet builder flexibility, peak-traffic app stability, and which operators run tournament-specific concessions. We’ve narrowed this to the 8 UK books that combine at least two of those strengths. Each entry below leads with the single feature that matters most across 39 days of tournament betting — not generic welcome-offer coverage, but the specific reason to have this book on your shortlist.

  • Sky Bet’s bet builder covers more stat lines per World Cup fixture than any UK competitor — shots, tackles, fouls, corners, cards, all combinable. #RequestABet stays open through the knockouts, unlike several rivals that throttle custom pricing during peak traffic. Best pick if you want to build complex slips across group-stage and Round-of-32 matches.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Deepest bet builder on the UK market — more stat lines per fixture than any competitor
    • #RequestABet remains open through knockouts when rivals throttle custom pricing
    • Reliable live-market responsiveness during peak traffic, confirmed across the 2022 cycle
    cons icon Cons:
    • Welcome offer looks smaller than some rivals' when weighed against ongoing concessions
  • Midnite is mobile-first and built around bet builder and in-play. The app loads market changes faster than several heavier legacy books, which matters in the closing minutes of group-stage matches where odds shift fast. Market depth is leaner than the incumbents, but the markets that are there price well — particularly on match-winner and goalscorer props.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Fastest-loading bet builder and in-play UI on mobile
    • Clean app stability through peak kick-off load
    • Sharp pricing on headline match-winner, goalscorer and BTTS markets
    cons icon Cons:
    • Leaner market depth than bet365 and Sky Bet — expect fewer niche player props
  • Paddy Power leans hardest on money-back concessions during major tournaments — historically including “money back if your team loses on penalties” and “money back on red cards” during World Cup knockouts. Useful hedge value if you’re backing favourites through the bracket. Same-game multi stakes accepted up to £500 per selection.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Strongest money-back concessions in the UK market (penalty losses, red cards, early goal specials)
    • Same-game multi stakes up to £500 per selection
    • Extensive early-price board on outright and group-winner markets
    cons icon Cons:
    • Heavier app than mobile-first competitors — slower to load under peak-kick-off traffic
  • BetFred runs its Goals Galore multi and Double Delight / Treble Trouble goalscorer concession throughout the World Cup — extending a paid-out bet on a player to score again, then a third time. Strong accumulator pricing on group-stage multiples and reliable early payouts on 2-goal-lead match bets.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Double Delight / Treble Trouble goalscorer boost runs the entire tournament
    • Goals Galore multi provides ongoing free-roll on group-stage accas
    • Reliable 2-goal-lead early payouts on match-winner markets
    cons icon Cons:
    • Heavier legacy app runs slowly on older devices and mid-range Android handsets
  • Bet365 publishes 200+ markets on most group-stage fixtures — more than any UK competitor. Live streaming covers every match alongside BBC/ITV (subject to account balance or recent stake). Their Bet Builder isn’t quite as deep as Sky Bet’s, but the breadth of outright, player and specials markets across the 48-team draw is unmatched.

    pros icon Pros:
    • 200+ markets per group-stage fixture — widest UK coverage by a clear margin
    • Live streaming on every World Cup match (eligibility applies)
    • Deep player markets spanning goals, assists, cards, shots and tackles
    cons icon Cons:
    • Bet Builder less flexible than Sky Bet's — fewer combinable stat lines on a single fixture
  • William Hill’s outright board is where the UK market often anchors — prices rarely drift far from their line. Best Odds Guaranteed extends across World Cup player markets (goalscorer, cards, assists), which is a genuine edge on in-running stakes. Heavier legacy app, but stable through peak kick-off traffic.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Best Odds Guaranteed extends across player markets — a real in-running edge
    • Outright board holds prices longer than competitors — good for early-tournament value
    • App stability confirmed across prior major-tournament peak traffic
    cons icon Cons:
    • Fewer tournament-specific concessions than Paddy Power or BetFred
  • Ladbrokes runs a daily #OddsBoost selection throughout the tournament — a single boosted bet per account per day, typically on a high-profile fixture or outright. Over 39 days of competition that’s a meaningful free-roll if you use it consistently. Strong coverage of Home Nations specials including Scotland’s Group C matches.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Daily #OddsBoost runs for the entire 39-day tournament — steady ongoing value
    • Strong Home Nations specials coverage (England Group L, Scotland Group C)
    • Reliable early outright pricing in line with the wider market
    cons icon Cons:
    • Bet builder depth trails Sky Bet and bet365 — fewer stat-line combinations per fixture
48-Team Format

How the 48-Team Format Works

The 2026 World Cup is the first to run with 48 teams and 12 groups. The format change affects every football betting market on the tournament — longer knockouts, more dead-rubber group games, and a new qualification route for best third-place finishers.

Group stage

  • 12 groups of 4 teams (up from 8 groups of 4 in 2022)
  • Top two in each group advance automatically to the Round of 32
  • Best 8 third-place finishers also advance — total of 32 teams through to the knockouts
  • Total group-stage matches: 72
  • Group-stage window: 11–27 June 2026

Knockout stage

  • Round of 32 → Round of 16 → Quarter-finals → Semi-finals → Final
  • 32 knockout matches (up from 16 in 2022)
  • The eventual winner plays 8 matches total (previously 7)
  • Final: 19 July 2026, MetLife Stadium, New Jersey

What this changes for betting

  1. Outright value shifts to the top seeds — more knockout games but against weaker opposition in the Round of 32.
  2. Group winner markets matter more — topping the group avoids meeting a strong runner-up in the Round of 32.
  3. Tournament top goalscorer totals will rise — the winner of the 2022 Golden Boot hit 8; the 2026 winner will likely need 10+.
  4. Third-place qualification is a new market — bookmakers now price “to qualify from group” including the best-third route, which changes the implied pricing for sides drawn in tougher groups.

Kick Off Times

World Cup 2026 kick-off times in the UK

UK kick-off times at the 2026 World Cup are less viewer-friendly than Qatar. With matches spread across the US East and West Coasts, Mexico and Canada, the slots that affect UK viewers fall in four main bands:

  • 5pm–6pm UK — early Mexico and US East Coast kick-offs. Most viewer-friendly slot of the day.
  • 8pm UK — peak East Coast slot (New York, Miami, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta). The 8pm tournament opener (Mexico v South Africa, 11 June) sits here.
  • 11pm UK — Central US time zone (Dallas, Houston, Kansas City). Doable on weekends, harder on a school night.
  • 1am–3am UK — West Coast venues (Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco). Eight matches across the group stage fall in this band.

The final on Sunday 19 July is an 8pm UK kick-off at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey — the most viewer-friendly slot of the tournament.

Markets

World Cup 2026 Betting Markets Explained

The markets available on World Cup fixtures are broader than a Premier League weekend. Outright markets open 18+ months before the tournament, match markets go live as the draw is confirmed, and player markets multiply in the week before the opening match.

Outright markets

  • Tournament winner — the main outright. Usually live from the day after the previous final.
  • Top goalscorer / Golden Boot — under the 48-team format, expect the winner to need 10+ goals. Watch for value on players in weak groups.
  • Top assister — thinner market; prices tend to be generous on midfield creators whose teams are expected to progress deep.
  • Golden Ball (best player) — opinion-driven and historically skewed toward players on winning teams.
  • Group winner / Group qualification — one of the more stable markets. Price the group favourite against the field.
  • Nation of semi-finalist — four spots, so the maths is different to the outright. Value on teams ranked 5th–12th in the outright board.
  • Stage of elimination — niche market; useful for hedging outright bets.

Match markets

Standard 90-minute markets apply to every fixture, but the ones that matter most at World Cups:

  • Match result (1X2) — the core market. Watch for inflated prices on the draw in group-stage dead rubbers.
  • Both Teams to Score — historically weaker at World Cups than domestic football. BTTS hit in 46% of 2022 Qatar matches vs. 52% in the Premier League.
  • Over/Under 2.5 goals — Qatar averaged 2.69 goals per game; the 48-team format is expected to widen skill gaps and push that number higher.
  • Correct Score — longest odds typically come from the 2–1 / 1–2 / 3–1 bracket.
  • First goalscorer / Anytime goalscorer — thicker player markets than domestic football; bet builder territory.

In-play markets

Every UK sportsbook runs live betting on every World Cup fixture. Market depth drops after 70 minutes, so if you’re looking for in-play value on late goals, next-goal markets or card markets, price early.

Bet builder and same-game parlay

Bet builders have become the dominant format for World Cup match betting — more engaging than straight 1X2 bets on fixtures involving teams you don’t follow. Sky Bet runs one of the deepest builders, Midnite’s builder is the most mobile-friendly, and Paddy Power accepts same-game multi stakes up to £500 per selection.

Betting Tips

World Cup 2026 Betting Tips

Generic “do your research” betting advice is worthless. What actually matters at World Cups is recognising the structural biases that consistently misprice certain markets — and adjusting for the 48-team format change.

Fade favourites in group-stage match markets

Favourites at World Cups consistently underperform their implied probability in the group stage. The 2022 data: favourites priced shorter than 1/2 (1.50) won 61% of group-stage matches against an implied 67%. The reason is predictable — group games with qualification already secured turn into rotation fixtures. Don’t back short-priced favourites after a strong opening win.

The best-third route changes third-game dynamics

New for 2026: the best 8 third-placed teams go through. That means teams sitting on three points after two games (a common state in tight groups) have much stronger incentives to push for a win in match three, rather than protecting a draw. Expect more open matchday-3 games than in any previous tournament. Back Over 2.5 goals in non-dead group finales.

Watch the travel-fatigue factor

Group-stage matches in the 2026 tournament span three countries. Some teams will fly Seattle → Miami → Kansas City in 14 days. Others stay in the same region throughout. Check the travel load of teams priced as narrow favourites in matchday 3 — the travelled side is often overpriced.

Outright value sits in the 20/1–40/1 bracket

The 48-team format extends tournaments — eventual winners play 8 matches instead of 7. That rewards squad depth. The teams with the deepest 23-player squads outside the top 4 favourites (Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Croatia) are the value picks for outright and semi-finalist markets.

Bet the tournament, not the single match

The most reliable World Cup edge is knowing the bookmakers’ concession and early-payout rules. 2-goal-lead payouts, Paddy Power’s money-back on missed penalties in knockouts, BetFred’s Double Delight on goalscorers — these free-roll a significant portion of your stake when they hit. Every pound staked during the tournament should be placed where a concession rule applies.

Favourites

The Bookies' Favourites for World Cup 2026

Five teams dominate the top of the outright market. Here’s where each stands going into the tournament. Also you can check out the favourites to win the Golden Boot on our World Cup top scorer odds page.

Spain

Defending European champions. Qualified unbeaten with the best goal difference in UEFA qualifying (28 scored, 3 conceded). Drawn in Group H alongside Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay — a favourable opening fixture against Cape Verde, followed by a sterner test against Uruguay on matchday 3.

Argentina

Defending World Cup holders. Messi’s final tournament at 38; the squad around him has evolved faster than most expected — Enzo Fernández and Mac Allister now anchor midfield. Drawn in Group J with Algeria, Austria and Jordan — winnable on paper but Austria are awkward opposition. Historically, defending champions have a poor record: one successful defence since 1962.

France

Lost the 2022 final on penalties. Mbappé is now 27 and playing his prime tournament. Squad depth is the deepest of any contender. Drawn in Group I with Senegal, Iraq and Norway — a tough opener against Senegal and Norway’s Haaland to contend with on matchday 3. France have reached at least the semi-finals in four of the last six World Cups.

England

Qualified top of their UEFA group. Longest unbeaten run in competitive qualifying of any UEFA nation over the last cycle. Drawn in Group L with Croatia, Ghana and Panama — see our England World Cup 2026 hub for squad analysis, fixture-by-fixture odds and the predicted XI.

Brazil

First World Cup under Carlo Ancelotti — a four-time Champions League winner taking charge of the national team for the first major tournament. Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo carry the attack; Ancelotti’s preference for a settled midfield should give structure that previous Brazil sides have lacked. Drawn in Group C alongside Scotland, Morocco and Haiti. Brazil have not reached a World Cup semi-final since 2014.

The official World Cup 2026 ball: Adidas Trionda

Adidas revealed the official 2026 World Cup match ball — the Trionda — in February 2026. The design references the tri-host format with three coloured panels representing Canada, Mexico and the United States. The ball uses Adidas’ latest Connected Ball technology, which feeds inertial sensor data directly to the VAR room for offside decisions and ball-touch confirmations on penalty appeals.

The Trionda is the first World Cup ball to be fully constructed without animal-derived adhesives. UK retail price at launch: £130 from official outlets.

World Cup 2026 stadiums

The 2026 tournament uses 16 stadiums across the three host nations — 11 in the United States, three in Mexico and two in Canada. The biggest venues drive the marquee fixtures:

  • MetLife Stadium, New Jersey — 82,500 capacity. Hosts the final on 19 July.
  • Estadio Azteca, Mexico City — 87,000 capacity. Hosts the opener on 11 June and Mexico’s group-stage matches.
  • AT&T Stadium, Dallas — 80,000 capacity. Hosts a semi-final.
  • SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles — 70,000 capacity. Hosts both knockout matches and the third-place play-off.
  • BMO Field, Toronto — 45,000 capacity (expanded for the tournament). Canada’s primary venue.

The 16 venues span four US time zones, which is why UK kick-off times range from 5pm to 3am — see the kick-off times section above for the detail.

Where to buy World Cup 2026 tickets

FIFA sells World Cup 2026 tickets exclusively through FIFA.com/tickets — the only official channel. Tickets opened in tiered phases through 2025 and 2026; resale through unauthorised third parties carries a real risk of cancellation at the turnstile, since FIFA validates tickets against the original purchase identity. Prices range from £45 for group-stage matches in lower-tier venues up to £4,500 for premium seats at the final.

How to Choose a Bookie

How to Choose a Bookie for the World Cup

The criteria shift during a major tournament. Welcome offers matter less when you’ll be placing 100+ bets over six weeks — the concessions, market depth and bet builder flexibility matter more.

UKGC licensing

Every site on this page holds a UK Gambling Commission licence. If you bet with an unlicensed operator, you have no recourse if a dispute arises. Check the licence number in the site footer before depositing — it should be verifiable on the UKGC register.

Outright and match-market depth

The top UK books publish 200+ markets on a group-stage fixture; the weakest publish 30–40. Depth matters most in player markets and bet builders — if you want shots on target, tackles, fouls won, and first-card markets, you’re choosing between 4–5 operators at most.

World Cup concession rules

The biggest free-roll during a World Cup is knowing which operator pays out early. Look for 2-goal-lead payouts on match markets, group-winner early settlement, and money-back specials on knockout penalties or red cards. These concessions are where experienced bettors extract genuine value.

In-play and cash-out reliability

World Cup matches draw peak traffic; in-play markets occasionally suspend or lag at operators with heavier legacy infrastructure. Sky Bet and Midnite lead on live-market responsiveness based on the 2022 cycle and recent Premier League peak-traffic data. If you plan to bet heavily in-play, avoid operators known for slow market reopens after VAR reviews.

Payment methods and withdrawal speed

E-wallet withdrawals at the top UK books settle in under 24 hours. Debit cards typically take 2–3 business days. If you’re running a bankroll through the tournament, use an e-wallet (PayPal, Skrill, Neteller) rather than a card — the reload speed matters when you’re betting across multiple kick-offs per day.

Mobile betting apps

Every site on this page has a native iOS and Android app. The differences are in app stability during peak load, bet builder UX on mobile, and push-notification quality for in-play alerts. Sky Bet and Midnite lead on mobile UX; the heavier apps (Paddy Power, BetFred) carry more features but run slower on older phones.

Six weeks of near-daily matches is the longest sustained betting window in the football calendar. That changes risk profiles — both the volume of bets placed and the chance of chasing losses during a bad run. Every sportsbook on this page offers deposit limits, loss limits and session time-outs in the account dashboard.

If your betting is no longer fun, or you’re betting money you can’t afford to lose, the following services help:

  • BeGambleAwarebegambleaware.org — 0808 8020 133 (free, 24/7)
  • GamCaregamcare.org.uk
  • GAMSTOP — free self-exclusion across all UKGC-licensed operators

Set your deposit limit before the tournament starts, not after your first bad week.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the 2026 World Cup?

11 June to 19 July 2026. The opening match is Mexico v South Africa at Estadio Azteca on Thursday 11 June at 8pm UK. The final is at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday 19 July at 8pm UK.

How many teams are in the 2026 World Cup?

48 teams — up from 32 in 2022. They’re split into 12 groups of 4. The top two in each group plus the 8 best third-placed teams progress to the Round of 32.

Who are the favourites to win the 2026 World Cup?

Spain, Argentina, France, England and Brazil lead the outright market at UK books. Current best prices sit on our outright odds table above, updated from the books listed on this page.

Where can I watch the 2026 World Cup in the UK?

BBC and ITV share UK broadcast rights. Every match is free-to-air on TV and live-streamed on BBC iPlayer or ITVX. See the full broadcast schedule further up this page for the channel for every fixture.

When are England playing at the 2026 World Cup?

England play Croatia on Wednesday 17 June at 9pm UK (ITV), Ghana on Tuesday 23 June at 9pm UK (BBC), and Panama on Saturday 27 June at 10pm UK (ITV). All three group-stage matches are in Group L.

When are Scotland playing at the 2026 World Cup?

Scotland face Haiti on Sunday 14 June at 2am UK (BBC), Morocco on Friday 19 June at 11pm UK (ITV), and Brazil on Wednesday 24 June at 11pm UK (BBC). All three group-stage matches are in Group C.

What is the best World Cup betting site?

The right site depends on what you’re betting on. For bet builders and in-play, Sky Bet and Midnite lead the field. For money-back concessions, Paddy Power is hardest to beat. For goalscorer specials, BetFred’s Double Delight runs throughout the tournament. See the operator comparison at the top of this page for the full breakdown.

Do UK bookmakers pay out early on the World Cup?

Several do, under different conditions. Look for 2-goal-lead early payouts on match markets, group-winner early settlement (paid once the position is mathematically confirmed), and money-back specials on missed knockout penalties. Each operator’s tournament concession rules are where the genuine free value sits — check them before betting.

What's changed in betting markets because of the 48-team format?

Three main things. Tournament top goalscorer totals will rise — expect 10+ goals to win. The Round of 32 adds a knockout game that favours top seeds. And the best-third qualification route keeps more teams’ incentives live on matchday 3, so expect more open matches than in previous tournaments.

Is there an early price guarantee on World Cup bets?

Several UK operators run best-price guarantees on World Cup match markets — if your selection shortens before kick-off, you’re paid at the bigger price. Check each bookmaker’s BPG terms before placing; not all extend it to outrights.

What's the best bet builder at the 2026 World Cup?

Sky Bet runs the deepest builder by stat lines per fixture. Midnite has the cleanest mobile UX. Same-game multi stakes differ between operators; Paddy Power accepts up to £500 per selection.

Who are the favourites for the World Cup 2026 top scorer?

At the start of the 2026 tournament, the consensus UK favourites for the Golden Boot are Erling Haaland (Norway), Kylian Mbappé (France) and Harry Kane (England). Lamine Yamal is the popular outsider after his strong Euro 2024 — Spain’s group route gives him three relatively easier opening matches to build a tally. For full top-scorer odds across all UK bookmakers, see the World Cup top scorer odds page.

How do I claim a World Cup welcome bonus at a new betting site?

Most UK welcome offers for the World Cup follow the bet-and-get pattern: open an account, deposit at least £10, place a £10 qualifying bet at minimum odds (usually 1/2 or 4/5) on any World Cup market, and you’ll receive £20-£40 in free bets once the qualifying bet settles. Eight of the 10 operators in our table above accept Paysafecard, debit cards and PayPal for the qualifying deposit. Read the bonus T&Cs for the minimum-odds, free-bet expiry and eligible-market rules before placing the qualifying bet.

What time do World Cup 2026 games kick off in the UK?

Most group-stage games kick off between 5pm and 1am UK time. The earliest slot is 5pm, the latest is 1am the following morning. Knockout games are weighted later for North American prime-time, so expect more 8pm and 11pm UK kick-offs from the Round of 16 onwards.
