The NFL is the world’s biggest football league and the most-watched sports league in the US, but NFL fans are no longer restricted to simply watching matches. Thanks to the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018, NFL betting is now legal in several states. Want to get in on the action? We’ve created a list of the very best NFL betting sites, so that you can easily compare sportsbooks and pick out your favourite. Simply sign up to bet on the NFL.

If you’re new to sports betting, then you’re probably looking for some guidance on how to get started. We’ve got you covered – read on for everything you need to know about betting on the NFL, including where it’s legal, what bets you can place and how you can bet on your mobile.

Short Reviews of the Best NFL Betting Sites

  • Landing on the DraftKings site for the first time, I was impressed with the amount of NFL odds. Not only that, I found that if you click on ‘NFL’ you have a breakdown of each bet type so you can specify ‘team props’ or ‘player totals’, as an example, on the list of available matches.

Another convenient feature of this site is the pop up bet slip that adds on each bet that you select. This is becoming more familiar across betting sites but still something I always find makes life a lot easier.

I found a great many promotions at DraftKings, including a $200 of free bets welcome bonus as well as several event specific offers like a hole in one super boost and a refer a friend profit boost scheme.

Overall, DraftKings provides a wide selection of sports to bet on and a site that’s easy to navigate. For mobile bettors, if you’re looking to download a sports betting app then I’d highly recommend the DraftKings app.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Popular sports betting app available to download
    • Wide selection of promotions
    • Competitive NFL betting odds
    cons icon Cons:
    • Free bet welcome offer only valid for 7 days
  • Of all the sports betting sites available, I’ve always really liked the layout of Fanduel. Sports are listed down the lefthand side – click on NFL and you’ll find details of all the odds available. One handy feature on Fanduel is that odds can be broken down by week – so at the time of writing this review, week 1 odds are highlighted. Other categories include specific teams, conferences and divisions as well as odds across the board, such as rushing props and receiving props. The Fanduel app is available for both Android and iOS devices and displays really well on the smaller screen. In fact, I find that the clarity is better than on desktop. Overall, a great site that I’d highly recommend for NFL fans.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Well displayed and easy to use app
    • Sport specific promotions
    • Live betting available for a large variety of sports
    cons icon Cons:
    • No loyalty rewards for returning bettors
  • I wasn’t so impressed with the layout of NFL betting odds on the BetMGM site compared to some of its competitors. Nevertheless, aside from NFL there is a great choice of sports to bet on including soccer, hockey, MMA, rugby and golf. In terms of promotions the main emphasis here is with the MGM Rewards scheme that’s unique to BetMGM customers. Through collecting points through wagers, bettors can become eligible for event tickets, hotel upgrades and exclusive Vegas discounts.

The BetMGM app is available to download on Android and iOS devices and is well laid out with everything you’d hope to see available. It was updated at the end of 2022, ironing out several minor issues that turned many bettors off using it so functioning better than ever. Great improvements from the BetMGM team.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Customer service available 24/7
    • Newly enhanced sports betting app
    • Unique experience-based MGM Rewards program
    cons icon Cons:
    • Not as detailed layout as some of its competitors
  • The PointsBet site is bold in color with its distinctive black and red scheme. There aren’t as many sports available as on some of the other sites however I was pleased to see football and NFL listed. No matter what sports page you’re looking at, there’s a useful events calendar listed down the right hand side. This outlines the next available matches and events to bet on – a super handy tool for when planning your wagers. Another feature I really like on this site is the live betting and streaming facility – it’s great to be able to watch the game and bet on it at the same time.

Overall, you’ll find the main sports on PointsBet but you’ll need to find a different operator if you want to bet on something specifically niche. Nevertheless, it’s a well laid out site that’s easy to navigate so I’d recommend it for NFL betting fans.

    pros icon Pros:
    • Live streaming available for certain sports
    • PointsBet rewards scheme for existing customers
    • Decent selection of promotional offers
    cons icon Cons:
    • Not many payment methods available for deposits or withdrawals

How We Review NFL Betting Sites

We know that everyone’s priority differs when it comes to selecting the best NFL betting site. This is why during our reviews, we like to cover off and report back on as many important areas as possible. Let’s go through some of the aspects of a betting site we examine.

Licensing

If a site isn’t licensed then we won’t review it. For us, it’s important to remember that unlicensed sites are not regulated or audited meaning you cannot trust that they operate in a transparent way or that your personal details are safe.

Sports Available

While it may be the NFL you’re looking for, we will always check out what sports are available to bet on. It’s great to see a variety of both popular and less common sports as well as competitive odds across the board.

Promotional Offers

The majority of the best NFL betting sites will provide a welcome bonus to new customers. This is a great way of getting to know how a site works and gives you a chance to practise before laying down your own cash. Aside from this, we like to see a selection of existing customer promotions – sports and event specific as well as more longer standing offers.

Customer Service

We live in a digital world and because of this, it should always be easy to get hold of someone from your betting site when something goes wrong. As a minimum there should be live chat and an email available, plus a telephone number for those who prefer to talk to a real person. Social media handles can be useful too. At least one of these options should be available 24/7 as not everyone bets during traditional working hours.

Mobile Capabilities

You will typically find betting sites providing native apps for people to download onto their phone. This is the ideal as they’re practical, speedy and often provide unique app-specific promotions. We will always test out a site via a mobile device – our hope is that the pages fit well, text is clear and not overly small, and the general layout works well for the smaller screen.

In a Nutshell

NFL Betting in the US Explained

A number of states have legalized and launched sports betting since the PASPA was overturned. These are:

While you can legally place NFL bets in each of these states, the betting regulation and sportsbook availability varies. Some states, such as New Jersey, allow you to bet online and via mobile apps. However, other US states like Mississippi require you to be at land-based sportsbooks and commercial or tribal casinos in order to wager on sports.

NFL Season

The NFL regular season may only run from September to December, but don’t worry – there are loads of betting opportunities in these few months. With 272 games in total,  you’ll never have to wait too long before you can place your next NFL bet.

The NFL is made up of two 16-team conferences: the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). Each conference is split into North, East, West and South divisions, which all comprise of four teams. Every team plays 12 games against teams from its own conference and four matches against opponents from the other conference during the regular season.

The top teams at the end of the regular season go into the NFL playoffs. These are the four division winners and three wild-card teams from each conference, which are the remaining teams with the best record. The playoffs are made up of three rounds and determine the NFC and AFC champions.

The two conference champions then face off in the NFL’s showpiece event: the Super Bowl. This is one of the biggest sporting events in the world, so there’s often special Super Bowl promotions available at the best NFL betting sites.

Kyle Odegard Headshot
Kyle Odegard
NFL Insider

The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning Super Bowl champions after knocking off the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, in February. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes proved that Kansas City’s offense could be just as lethal without receiver Tyreek Hill, as he claimed league MVP and won a second championship.

Kansas City has opened as the championship favorite at +650 odds, according to BetMGM, followed by Philadelphia at +700. There are five clear-cut contenders heading into 2023. The Buffalo Bills have the third-best odds at +800, followed by the Cincinnati Bengals and San Francisco 49ers at +900 apiece.

One thing to remember: NFL storylines can be turned on their head after just a few weeks, so longshots should be considered.

NFL Betting Markets

NFL Betting Markets

Bettors can place wagers on a range of markets at the best NFL betting sites. The exact betting options vary from sportsbook to sportsbook, but here are some of the most popular markets you can bet on:

Moneyline

A moneyline bet is simply a wager on which team you think will win a game. This market can provide good value when two teams are evenly matched on paper. If you’re looking to bet on a game with a clear favourite, however, you might be better off betting on the point spread.

Combining multiple selections in an accumulator is one way to get better odds, but of course, there’s an increased risk – if just one of your selections loses, then your accumulator bet loses.

Outright

Here, you’re betting on the winner of a competition. For example, you can bet on the Los Angeles Chargers to win the AFC Championship at +1600 odds, or wager on the Seattle Seahawks to win the Super Bowl at +3000.

Kyle Odegard Headshot
Kyle Odegard
NFL Insider

Do you think you know ball? Outright betting is a simple way to cash in on correct predictions. With spread betting, a meaningless late field goal can result in the loss of a cover, while outright betting rewards those who pick the winner of a competition. When you’re wagering on one team out of 32, it can be hard to nail, but the corresponding odds can make it lucrative if the correct team is chosen. Be forewarned, though: the NFL is known for its parity and close games, so good process does not always equate to good results. There can be some luck involved.

Total points

Also known as over/under, this is where you bet there to be more or less than a certain number of points scored in an NFL game, such as over 47.5 or under 41.

Spread betting

A point spread bet is where you wager on a team to win and either maintain a points advantage of overturn a disadvantage. For example, if you bet on the Seattle Seahawks with a +5 spread, they’d have to win by at least 6 points.

Proposition bets

Prop bets are where you wager on a certain event to occur within a game, rather than the match result itself. Examples of NFL prop bets include the first team to score and for a particularly player to score a touchdown.

Parlays

This is a single bet that is made up by two or more wagers. Parlay bets provide longer odds, but you’ll need every selection to right in order to win. If just one loses, you’ll lose the entire bet.

Kyle Odegard Headshot
Kyle Odegard
NFL Insider

Parlays are en vogue on betting apps, especially Same Game Parlays in which sportsbook give a collection of bets to be wagered on by customers. It can be a fun way to stack bets together, and it makes sense when a bettor is confident in a certain team winning a game or scoring a lot of points. In the long run, parlays tend to be a losing proposition compared to straight bets, but they can be exciting to play, knowing that one big hit would result in a lucrative payout.

Betting Apps

Best NFL Betting Apps

While retail sportsbooks are still popular in Las Vegas and some gamblers use their desktops to place wagers, most bettors prefer the ease of betting on a mobile device. All of the top operators have betting apps that can be downloaded for Android and iPhone. It’s certainly the easiest way to make bets, and it allows for gamblers to get in on the action lightning-quick, which is perfect for in-play betting, where every second counts.

If gamblers so choose, they can also allow the betting apps to send them push notifications, which is a great way to keep up with new promotions, big games and the ever-changing NFL odds. There is really no need to be tied to a desktop or place wagers in person any longer.

FanDuel currently takes the cake as the app with the best design. Not only does it look beautiful, but the functionality is top-notch when it comes to browsing and placing wagers. It is also a great place for same-game parlays, offering some of the most imaginative wagers among the operators.

Caesars is the app to use when it comes to NFL futures wagers. The sportsbook will often put up more attractive odds for bets like NFL MVP, NFL Offensive Player of the Year, NFL Defensive Player of the Year, NFL Rookie of the Year and others. It is a great idea to line shop because the odds can vary from sportsbook to sportsbook, and Caesars tends to be a good option.

It is hard to compete with DraftKings when it comes to sign-up bonuses on the mobile app. It’s an easy registration process and the current offers are among the best available.

Some preferences in mobile apps will come down to the priorities of the user. There are plenty of options so check out the best mobile betting apps today.

The best US sportsbooks offer welcome bonuses that you can usually use to bet on NFL games. Common offers include free bets and matched deposit bonuses, which reward you with bonus funds when you make your first deposit. Some sites also have money-back welcome bonuses, where you receive a betting bonus if your first wager doesn’t win.

Matched Deposits

Matched deposits are some of the most common welcome bonuses available to NFL bettors. When you claim these offers, the betting site will match your first deposit up to a certain amount, such as 100%, giving you extra funds to wager with. You will have to fulfil certain terms and conditions when you claim these promotions, however, such as wagering requirements which may be applied to the value of the bonus, deposit or both.

Free Bets

Free bets are one of the simplest bonus types you can claim at an NFL betting site. By signing up to one, you are given extra funds to wager on NFL games with. You may have to make a deposit in order to claim these funds, or you can be given them free of charge. There could be wagering requirements attached to them, however, and you may also be limited to using them on specific NFL games or markets.
