Buoyed by a tremendous performance to beat England in the Calcutta Cup last weekend, Scotland will be determined to back that up with a victory over Wales on Saturday, February 21, with their Round 3 clash kicking off at 4.40pm, live on BBC 1 and S4C. Beating England 31-20, Scotland bounced back from their defeat to Italy on the opening weekend and now Gregor Townsend’s side have Wales in their sights. Wales go into this game on the back two hammerings at the hands of England and France and things are unlikely to get much easier for Steve Tandy’s side on Saturday.
Six Nations: Wales vs Scotland Preview
Tip 1: Scotland -18.5 @ Evs with bet365
Having found Wales somewhat of a bogey team for so many years, Scotland have had recent joy against the men in red. Looking for what would be a fourth consecutive win over the Welsh, the Scots will look to be ruthless when they head to the Millennium Stadium this weekend. Wales might well feel battered and bruised following their 54-12 defeat at the hands of France in Cardiff and having a day less than the Scots to recover does not help the hosts’ cause either. Conceding 102 points already in this Six Nations after two rounds, it’s hard to see Wales fixing their defensive shortcomings enough to prevent this Scottish attack from racking up the points.
Scotland have allowed Wales back into games in recent encounters but if Townsend’s men can put together at least a strong 70 minutes, they should have enough quality to overcome the -18.5 handicap in this one.
Tip 2: Huw Jones to score a try @ SP with bet365
Another outstanding Calcutta Cup performance from Huw Jones will have given the British & Irish Lions star huge confidence going into Saturday’s trip to Cardiff. Bagging two more tries against England to take his Test tally up to 25, Jones showed electric pace to burn Maro Itoje on the outside for his first score, before running in from long range after a Matt Fagerson charge-down for his second. Given his speed and his ability to break through tackles, Jones to add to his Test try collection against the Welsh on Saturday.
Tip 3: Sione Tuipulotu to score a try @ SP with bet365
Leading from the front and captaining Scotland to that memorable win over England, Jones’ centre partner Sione Tuipulotu is also backed in the anytime tryscorer market for this one. Looking back at last season’s encounter between Scotland and Wales, Tom Jordan was selected at inside centre in Tuipulotu’s absence. Jordan bagged two tries in that game, which could highlight some defensive frailties in that area for Wales. Set to wear the No.12 jersey on Saturday, Tuipulotu is tipped to power over at the Millennium Stadium to add to the three tries he’s already scored for Scotland.
