It is a massive week in the golfing world with The Masters, the first Major of the year, starting on Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia and being shown live on Sky Sports Golf and Main Event. Rory McIlroy completed a career grand slam by claiming the Green Jacket last year, but world number one Scottie Scheffler, who had tasted glory in 2024, is set to go off as favourite despite not having finished in the top ten in his last three tournaments. Cameron Young was considered one of the best players without a PGA Tour title for quite some time, but he has broken through in the last 12 months and looks a serious contender this week. He is third in the world rankings after he finally got over the line with a six-shot win at August’s Wyndham Championship and had six top-ten finishes in his next ten tournaments by triumphing at last month’s Players Championship. Justin Rose is still a factor in the biggest tournaments and he could finally get his hands on the Masters title, having become the first player to lose two play-offs when McIlroy triumphed last year. That was his seventh top-ten finish at the first Major of the year and he is showing no signs of slowing down, having won February’s Farmers Insurance Open by seven shots. He also overcame a strong field at the FedEx St Jude Championship in August’s play-offs and his 13th at the Players last time out suggests his game is once again in good nick.
