The race to be crowned the PGA Tour’s FedExCup champion concludes this weekend with the Tour Championship from East Lake, Atlanta. The 30-man competition runs from Thursday to Sunday with the first pair teeing it up from 4pm BST on the opening day. It will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf and Main Event.
Tour Championship Preview
The Tour Championship at East Lake will crown the winner of this year’s FedExCup, the champions’ trophy for the PGA Tour. After two play-off events – won by Justin Rose and Scottie Scheffler – just 30 players are left fighting for the title, with world No.1 Scheffler the clear favourite to win this week and retain his crown.
Rory McIlroy, a three-time FedExCup winner, Tommy Fleetwood and a host of world-class stars are lined up against the majestic American and they will each be determined to write their own names into US golf folklore.
Tip 1 – Russell Henley each-way
Scheffler is a hard man to oppose this week – indeed any week – given he has 13 straight top-eight finishes including five wins, the most recent of which came at Caves Valley last week in the BMW Championship. But he doesn’t win every week, this is an elite field, and there are challengers, none more obvious than Russell Henley, who has enjoyed a remarkable 2025.
Henley, from Georgia so likely to have the galleries rooting for him, won the top-grade Arnold Palmer in March and is currently on a streak of six successive top-20s. He is better than most from tee to green, is putting better than he ever has, and his closing 62 at East Lake 12 months ago shows that this is a course he can take apart if he’s in the mood.
Tip 2 – Tommy Fleetwood each-way
One of the other players in the field capable of giving this tournament – and Scheffler – a tough battle is Tommy Fleetwood.
Since missing the cut at the US Open, the Englishman has had four top-16 finishes in his last five starts, with a tie for third and a tie for fourth over the last two weekends in the Play-Off events. Back in the world’s top 10 on the back of a fabulous fortnight, the only thing missing is a win but he will be knocking on the door.
Tip 3 – Harry Hall each-way
For a flier – and in a field of just 30, everyone has some sort of a sniff – take a chance perhaps on another Englishman, Harry Hall.
Hall rose from 45 in the rankings to 26 last week at the BMW Championship to get into East Lake and he has not finished outside of the top 30 in any of his last 11 starts, a remarkable show of consistency. If the Cornishman makes the frame at the Tour Championship, few would be truly that surprised.
