UEFA Champions League Last‑16 Leg 2 Betting Preview

UEFA Champions League Last‑16 Leg 2 Betting Preview

The Champions League knockout drama continues this week with eight second‑leg last-16 ties across Tuesday and Wednesday, with several continental heavyweights facing make‑or‑break matches.

The Premier League clubs all have their work cut out to qualify with Arsenal the best placed to secure their quarter-final berth on Tuesday as they face Bayer Leverkusen at home with a 1-1 score from the first leg. Both Chelsea and Manchester City must overturn three-goal deficits at home to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid respectively while Sporting kick off the action needing a similar comeback against Bodo/Glimt in Lisbon.

On Wednesday, Newcastle have no advantage to take to Barcelona for their second crack at Hansi Flick’s side after drawing 1-1 on Tyneside while Liverpool need to produce a more coherent attacking display against Galatasaray, trailing 1-0 from their Turkish trip. It all looks pretty forlorn for struggling Tottenham, 5-2 down from their Madrid mauling against Atletico, and Atalanta, 6-1 in arrears from their home leg against Bayern Munich.

Tuesday 17th

  • Manchester City vs Real Madrid (20:00)

Wednesday 18th

  • Liverpool vs Galatasaray (20:00)
  • Tottenham vs Atletico Madrid (20:00)

Tip 1: Paris Saint‑Germain to beat Chelsea @ 2/1 with bet365

Chelsea can be so hard to catch right that it seems strange that they are the consensus favourites to beat the reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge. Liam Rosenior’s Blues did a solid job in Paris up to a point where a goalkeeping error sent them into a tailspin. PSG raised their game with a clinical display of late finishing to potentially put the tie out of Chelsea’s reach, but Luis Enrique’s side may still have a point to prove.

The Parc des Princes clash erupted late on when Pedro Neto shoved a ball boy, sparking a mass altercation between both teams and some Chelsea players were seen pointing to the Club World Cup winners’ badges in a taunt to the home side at the end. That could come back to bite them in London with PSG fully rested after a free weekend and now finally warmed to the task of defending their crown. The Blues have not won at home in any competition since the end of January while PSG have won 12 of their 18 knockout ties under Enrique.

Tip 2: Bodo/Glimt Over 1.5 Team Goals vs Sporting CP @ 13/8 with Skybet

Bodo/Glimt continue to be one of the most remarkable stories in European football. Their fearless, high‑tempo style has already delivered wins over Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Inter in the last few months, and they were excellent again in the first leg against Sporting. Kjetil Knutsen’s side have scored at least two goals in each of their last seven Champions League games and will not be shy in coming forward in Lisbon.

Attack has been the best form of defence for the Norwegians and they should get enough chances to counter attack on a Sporting side that are duty-bound to throw bodies forward. Rui Borges’s men have conceded multiple goals in three of their last four Champions League matches and may not be able to stop Glimt from grabbing a couple.

Tip 3: Luis Díaz First Goalscorer in Bayern Munich vs Atalanta @ 5/1 with Paddy Power

Luis Diaz scored and was then sent off in Bayern’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw with Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. The Colombian has been in good goalscoring form of late and, with Harry Kane set to be rested on Wednesday, he looks like the standout option to break the deadlock for the hosts. Atalanta know they are virtually out and may see this trip as more of a face-saving exercise than any real chance of a comeback, so it is hard to see them getting much out of the game. Diaz may feel he has a debt to repay after his indiscipline and looks likely to feature ahead of an upcoming domestic ban.
