Wimbledon Women’s Singles Final Preview – Amanda Anisimova vs Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek bids to win her first Wimbledon singles title on Saturday when she meets Amanda Anisimova in the final on Saturday, July 12, at 2pm. The title match will be shown live on BBC One. This will be the eighth Wimbledon running that the tournament has produced a new champion and the oddsmakers reckon the more experienced Swiatek will lift the trophy.

Former world number one Swiatek is seeded eighth this year and victory on Saturday would see her join the ranks of the players who have won Grand Slam singles titles on all three surfaces – hard, clay and grass. But while Swiatek dropped only two games in her semi-final demolition of Belinda Bencic, her final opponent Amanda Anisimova is unlikely to buckle as easily, especially in the wake of her last-four triumph over top seed Aryna Sabalenka.

Tip 1: Amanda Anisimova to win at least a set @ 8/13 with Bet365

After Swiatek ripped Bencic apart in her last outing, many are expecting a similar outcome when she takes on Anisimova. However, of the finalists, only the Pole has dropped a first set at Wimbledon this year – her only one of the tournament – so the entire clash could be competitive.

Therefore, in the view that Anisimova could pose problems for the favourite, punters could try to side with the outsider. A handicap start of 3.5 games may not be enough for Animisova, especially considering her opponent is no stranger to blitzing her victims. Therefore, a better way to support the American 23-year-old may be to back her to win at least a set.

The highest-rated player Swiatek has beaten at Wimbledon this year has been 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova, whereas Anisimova upended top seed Aryna Sabalenka in her previous outing. So the final could actually be a step up in terms of quality for Swiatek, who has enjoyed a comfortable passage through the bottom half of the draw.

Tip 2: Over 21.5 total games @ 8/11 with Bet365

Five of Swiatek’s six singles matches at Wimbledon this year have yielded under 21.5 total games – the only one that didn’t was when she needed three sets to beat Caty McNally in round two. But with Swiatek facing almost certainly her toughest opponent yet in the final, things could get more competitive on Saturday.

Anisimova looks capable of winning at least one of the first two sets and so with Swiatek obviously likely to play her part too, we may even see three closely fought sets being contested so going over 21.5 games may be prudent.

Tip 3: Amanda Anisimova to win 2-1 in sets @ 9/2 with Bet365

This is one of the outsiders in the set betting – Anisimova is the same price to win 2-0 as she is to triumph 2-1 – but punters who chance their arm on the market at least have a reasonable price on their side.

We have outlined above how an outsider, who is expected by some to struggle to win a set against five-time major singles champion Swiatek, could make a real fist of her maiden Grand Slam final appearance. And Anisimova may even be good enough to prevail, possibly in three sets, the length of three of her last four match wins.
