FanDuel is predominantly known as being the home of fantasy sports, where fans make predictions about upcoming sports fixtures and select a dream team made of league players in order to win points. But following the legalization of sports betting in many US states in 2018, FanDuel was acquired by Flutter Entertainment and branched out into this emerging market, developing its own sportsbook in the process. The sportsbook went live in Ontario on April 4th, providing a wealth of betting opportunities for sports fans. We’ve conducted an extensive review of everything FanDuel has to offer. We’ll run you through the company’s history, before providing all the details you need to get started.

History of Fanduel Ontario

2022

FanDuel launches its integrated gambling site in Ontario, offering both sports betting and online casino gaming to customers in the province.

2020

Flutter Entertainment acquired the company following the relaxation of laws around North American sports betting. Expansion into the sportsbook space has, therefore, become FanDuel’s natural calling. Flutter’s acquisition was valued at $4.1 billion in 2020.

2010

FanDuel hosted its first Fantasy Football Championship I the US, offering $25,000 to the winner.

2009

FanDuel was founded in 2009 as a pivot away from the news prediction site, Hubdub. In establishing the FanDuel business, Hubdub’s founders decided to exclusively pursue their most profitable market: fantasy sports.

Fanduel Ontario Welcome Bonus

$1000 risk free bet
Sign up for FanDuel Sportsbook. Make your first deposit (minimum $10). Place your first bet in the Super Bowl Enhanced Odds market on the homepage. Winnings paid in CASH! 18+. Full T&Cs apply. Please gamble responsibly.

Over in the US, the FanDuel sportsbook is well known for its $1,000 risk-free welcome bonus which covers the first bet made by a new customer. If the customer’s selection doesn’t come good, FanDuel returns the stake as free bet credits, up to a maximum $1,000. We were hoping to see FanDuel roll out this bonus for customers in Ontario, but that’s not yet happened at the time of writing.

On the plus side, however, FanDuel does offer a no deposit bonus for new sign-ups. All you have to do is successfully create an account, and you’ll be given $25 in casino credits. In other words, these credits can only be used at FanDuel’s online casino site, rather than the sportsbook. The good news is that anything you win using these credits can be withdrawn as cash right away.

Promotions

It’s not just the newbies who can benefit from a bonus at FanDuel Ontario. Hit the ‘Promotions’ tab, and you’ll be whisked through to a page of offers. At the time of writing, existing FanDuel bettors can access one risk-free same game parlay every week. In order to qualify, you have to place a same game parlay on any NBA, soccer or MLB event. It has to include at least three legs at odds of -200 or longer. If the parlay loses, you’ll be refunded your stake up to $10.

An ongoing deal is also available for traditional parlays (in other words, not same game parlays). You just have to place a 5+ leg parlay, with a minimum of -200 odds for each leg. If the parlay loses by one leg, you’ll get some or all of your stake returned as site credits. There’s a maximum refund of $25 per day.

The promotions may be updated over time, so we recommend checking in regularly to see what’s available.

Sports available at Fanduel Ontario

As you might expect from a top bookie, the range of sports available at FanDuel is as good as any other betting site out there, offering customers lots of choice in terms of where and how they wish to wager their cash. All of the major sports are accounted for, as well as some traditionally international sports such as cricket, rugby league, snooker, and darts.

  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • F1 and Motorsports
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Hockey
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Snooker
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • UFC/MMA

Live Betting & Streaming

Since the advent of live streaming, sportsbooks have been better-placed to provide their users with comprehensive coverage of their favourite sports events. Live streaming facilities are the best way of keeping up with the action, offering real-time information into the state of play. This kind of insight allows punters to make more informed decisions about the status of their bets.

For example, you might be getting nervous that the Celtics are fighting back hard against the Raptors and that your wager on the Raptors is under threat. By watching the game via a live stream, however, you see that Jayson Tatum is carrying a knock, his influence on the game is waning, and there’s no need to cash out early!

While live streaming doesn’t appear to have been rolled out on FanDuel’s Ontario sportsbook, it is an integral part of its US operations. So we’ve high hopes we’ll soon see it in Canada. In the meantime, there’s a great array of live betting markets available for everything from baseball to tennis.

Odds

To the left-hand side of FanDuel’s sportsbook, you’ll notice a Boosts tab on the A-Z list of sports.

App Review

FanDuel’s mobile app carries over everything there is to enjoy from the desktop site. Users can scroll down the menu to find their preferred sports, markets, and bets, and access to all the same account management features. We’d like to see FanDuel add a search bar option to make it slightly easier to find what you’re looking for, but the app is so intuitive to use that its absence shouldn’t really be a problem. If you’re an Android user, head over to Google’s Play Store; if you’re on iOS, you can find the FanDuel app in the App Store.

Design & Usability

With distinct sections for sportsbook betting and the online casino, the FanDuel site is clear, intuitive and a breeze to navigate. Customers can keep up to date with the latest offers through the Promotions bar at the top of the homepage, and can quickly browse the various sports available using the left-hand menu. Just bear in mind you’ll need to click or tap through the main sport category to see what leagues and tournaments are available to bet on. With betting guides, house rules, and other supporting resources also offered, interacting with the FanDuel site is a pleasure.

Special Features

What makes FanDuel unique to other sportsbooks is its origins in fantasy leagues. Players can enter into fantasy competitions that payout real money, or simply enjoy these leagues for what they are: incredibly fun. Placing FanDuel’s extensive fantasy offering alongside traditional sports and casino betting options carries a relaxed atmosphere across the whole site and really gives this operator an edge, allowing members to mix up their markets whenever they feel like it.

Payments

At the moment, FanDuel Ontario offers a relatively limited range of deposit methods. You can pay into your account using a Visa credit card, though not Mastercard. You can also deposit via PayPal or the Interac online banking interface.

We’d also like to see FanDuel add a few more payment options before its launch in Canada. Other e-wallet options, such as MuchBetter, ecoPayz, and Skrill would be most welcome, and so too would another prepaid card option like Paysafecard.

Fanduel Ontario Customer Support

FanDuel Ontario has an extensive FAQs section which will hopefully clarify any issues you may have. It’s also good to know you can easily get in touch with staff if you do encounter problems. There’s a live chat window you can fire up through the site, or you can drop the team an email through an online form. Depending on how busy they are, you may have to wait around 24 hours for a response. As a major global brand, FanDuel also has an active social media presence on a number of platforms, providing players with another excellent way in which customers can get in touch.
