Boxing Betting Markets

Boxing Betting Markets

The nature of boxing means that, compared to high-scoring, free flowing sports like football and basketball, there’s a limited range of markets, but there are still some great betting options. Of course, the main attraction is deciding who will win the fight, but you can also take advantage of these additional markets, where you might even find better value bets.

Match Result

This is still the most popular market on any of the top boxing betting sites. It’s a simple 3-way decision: will boxer A win? Boxer B? Or, will it be a draw?

Fight Outcome

On the surface, this market may seem identical to the match result bet, but the fight outcome is the method by which the final result is judged. Therefore, you can bet on a fighter winning by knockout, technical knockout, disqualification, technical decision or decision. There is also the option for a draw or technical draw.

Round Betting

You can bet on which round the fight will finish and, at some bookies, you’ll be able to combine this with the match result. You can get some tasty odds if you do guess right. For example, Rocky Fielding was 100/1 to win in round 10 against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2018, which is far better value than betting on either market in isolation.

Round Group Betting

Round group betting is where you bet on a cluster of rounds for each boxer. This market allows a larger margin for error so, for instance, you could bet on a fighter to win in rounds 1–3. Naturally, the odds aren’t as good as betting on the nose, but you stand a better chance of guessing correctly.

Will the Fight go the Distance?

A simple yes/no market, where you bet on whether or not the fight will end before the total number of maximum rounds has been played. Professional bouts are limited to twelve rounds, however most are fought over four, six, eight or ten rounds. The maximum length of a fight depends on the experience of the contestants involved.

Total Rounds

This is essentially an under/over betting market. So, let’s say the bookies choose 7.5 rounds as the line, you’ll have to decide whether the number of rounds in the fight will go under or over.

Down But Not Out

Several bookmakers offer markets on a boxer getting knocked down but coming back to win. A risky tactic, as you wouldn’t assume a fighter that’s knocked down is closing in on victory, but the high prices on offer here might be enough to tempt you.

Live In-Play Betting

Live Betting

The top boxing betting sites will have live in-play betting on all the big fights. Due to the nature of boxing events, the markets on offer during the course of the fight are largely similar to the pre-match markets. One of the few additions you can expect to see is the ability to bet on the result of the next round. However, be prepared for some dramatic swings in prices as the action ebbs and flows. If a boxer gets knocked down, for example, the odds on them to win are likely to skyrocket.

Could this be a good time to back them? High risk, high reward — that’s part of the entertainment of sports betting.

pros-icon Pros

  • You can bet on the boxing even if you miss the start
  • Odds can improve as the fight continues

const-icon Cons

  • Volatile changes in price
  • If your bookie doesn't provide live streams, watching a fight via pay per view can be expensive

Live Stream the Boxing

Watch Top Boxing Action

One of the best things about online betting these days is that streaming options allow punters to watch boxing matches from wherever they are in the world. Most sportsbooks will facilitate live streaming on their sites, but they will require you to have placed a bet within the last 24 hours or at least have a funded account. Nonetheless, live streaming can really enhance your betting experience, giving you the option to make a more informed decision with your bet. So watching the best boxing from around the world without the need for a TV subscription is definitely worth bearing in mind when you choose your bookie.

Cash Out Betting

Early Cash Out at Boxing Betting Sites

Cashing out is one of the best features of modern online betting and if you’ve placed a few bets in your time then you should know how it works. It basically allows you to opt out of a bet and take whatever winnings you may have accrued while the event is still going on. It’s a great way to keep some money if you can feel the momentum of a match swinging against your fighter. It also presents the opportunity for you to cut your losses and cash out any sum you can, rather than losing all of your stake.

Boxing Accumulators

Accumulators

One of the most popular forms of online betting these days is the accumulator or acca. They allow you to make several bets together with a single stake and multiply the various odds together. This means that the winnings have the potential to be huge. The only catch is that, in order for you to win using an accumulator, all of your bets have to come in.

Boxing accumulators are often used during big fights when there are several undercards before the main bout. This means there’s a chance to make some serious money all in one night. Some bookies go a step further by allowing you to combine boxing bets with bets from other sports!

But with maximum reward comes maximum risk, meaning it’s harder to win an accumulator bet than it is to win an ordinary bet. That’s why some bookies have acca insurance, which gives you back your stake as a free bet should just one of your bets let you down.

These only work on five-fold selections and above and aren’t available on all boxing markets, but they’re a great safety net should in case one leg lets you down.

Specials

Specials & Promotions

Unfortunately, boxing has a history of the best avoiding the best on an all too frequent basis. A prime example of this was Floyd Mayweather Vs Manny Pacquiao which happened five years too late in the eyes of many boxing fans. This means you’ll often find lopsided contests, where the boxing betting odds on the favourite aren’t favourable for punters. In these instances, specials and promotions are used to attract bettors.

For instance, Betsafe offered a whopping 50/1 on Conor McGregor beating Floyd Mayweather in their not-so-epic boxing match in 2017. The catch was that it was a £1 max bet. Still, it would’ve been a nice fifty in your pocket had the result been different.

Boxing Betting Bonuses

Boxing Bonuses

Unlike sports like football, which lend themselves to weekly free bet clubs, the lack of frequent major boxing events means there isn’t much opportunity for great rewards for existing boxing punters. Still, that doesn’t mean all is lost. The majority of the top bookmakers will have some kind of welcome offer that normally can be used across a range of sports, including matched deposits and free bets.

Matched Deposits

Matched deposits are a classic online casino promotion that’s found its way over to sports bookmakers as well. Its beauty is in its simplicity. You make your first deposit and the bookmaker will give you a percentage match. A common example is ‘100% up to £100’. So, if you deposit £100, you have £200 to bet with.

Of course you’re not simply being given £100; there will be terms and conditions attached that you must complete in order to profit from this bonus, so you’ll need to read the small print to find out what they are. There will most certainly be a minimum odds requirement, so you probably won’t be able to back a red hot favourite.

Free Bets

Another popular new customer bonus is the free bet. To claim one, you’ll usually have to sign up and deposit a specified minimum amount, then the bookmaker will give you some free bets to enjoy. Again, you’ll likely encounter a minimum price threshold, but all things considered, this is an excellent offer. After all, even if you’re unsuccessful with your free boxing bets, you still have your original deposit to bet with as you wish.

Enhanced Odds

This offer is usually reserved for the biggest bouts and is used by bookies to stay ahead of the competition. These offers give you the opportunity to make more money than usual from ordinary bets, but they’re also only available on certain markets. Either way, they’re a great way to make the most from the biggest fights.

Existing Customer Bonuses

While the most boxing betting bonuses are often reserved for new customers, the best sites also offer plenty of promotions for existing bettors. Not all these betting offers will be available to use on boxing bouts, but there will be a fair few that lend themselves perfectly to betting on the action in the ring. Here are a few of the boxing promos you might find in store:

  • Acca Insurance – Acca insurance works by refunding your stake if one leg of an acca lets you down. There will often need to be a minimum number of selections on your bet slip to qualify for these offers, and you’ll usually get your refund as a free bet token.
  • Boosted Odds – Boosted odds or enhanced odds offers increase the betting odds on popular boxing betting markets. At the best bookies, these promotions are common in the run-up to big title fights and popular boxing bouts.
  • Free Bet Clubs – These clubs allow you to earn regular free bets in return for staking a certain amount. The infrequent nature of boxing events mean you might need to wager on other sports to earn your freebies, but these clubs can prove fun, regardless.
  • Loyalty Schemes – Loyalty schemes are a little more common at online casinos than sports betting sites but do pop up at some of the best sportsbooks. These programs may reward you with anything from free bets to in-person hospitality events.
  • Unique Promotions – The best bookies think outside the box and come up with their own bonus offers. At 888sport, you can earn a £5 free bet when you win at 4/1 or bigger. The offer is available on boxing, so this could prove the ideal way to back an underdog.

Mobile Boxing Betting

Betting On the Go

It goes without saying nowadays that all the best betting sites are geared up to provide mobile punters with a premium quality betting experience anytime, any place. It is, however, still worth checking out the full list of options offered by the bookmakers on this page. Some have specific mobile apps for iOS and Android devices, whilst others use mobile-optimised web-based platforms. If you have a preference, use our list to guide you to the right site. Also given that boxing matches are often held late at night (or early in the morning for US bouts), punters are often out and about during the fight. This makes it even more useful to have a top-quality betting app in your pocket.

Payment Methods

Payment Methods at Boxing Betting Sites

The best boxing betting sites will have a variety of payment options available to you. Let’s have a look at what you can expect to find.

Debit Cards

Pretty much all bookie’s accept debit cards as a viable payment option from a range of providers, including Maestro, Visa and Mastercard. Debit transactions are the most popular and probably the most familiar to punters with withdrawals typically processed within 5 days.  While gambling using your debit card is easy and convenient for most players, it’s not the case for credit cards. They are now banned from all gambling sites, the UK Gambling Commission announced on 14th April 2020, following the Government’s Review of Gaming Machines and Social Responsibility Measures.

e-Wallets

The best new bookies now accept e-wallet payment options like PayPal, Neteller and Skrill, and there’s a lot to like about them. Transactions are processed much faster than debit cards — typically within 24 hours — and there are no signup fees.

One problem may be that they aren’t accepted as part of bonuses so it’s always best to check the terms and conditions before you go ahead with an e-wallet.

Boxing Betting Tips

Boxing Betting Tips

Boxing betting tips can help make your online betting experience more fun — and potentially more profitable too. Here are a few to get you started:

  • Know the Basics – To get the best possible experience from betting on boxing online and enjoy a better chance of a payout, it can pay to brush up on boxing betting strategy to ensure you understand all the different types of boxing bets — moneyline bets, prop bets, number of rounds and so on — before getting started.
  • Research the DetailsAs with all forms of sports betting, the key to greater success is research and knowledge. Many online bookmakers now offer a stats section, this is worth its weight in gold before betting. It’s an old cliche but fighting styles can have a huge impact on the outcome of a fight. Does one of the boxers possess overwhelming knockout power? For this you can check their previous record. If you notice a trend of victories that don’t go the distance, you might fancy your chances of betting on the fight to end with a knockout.
  • Fight LocationAs witnessed in December 2018’s Wilder Vs Fury fight, the location of the bout can have an impact on the outcome. Many pundits believe if that fight had happened outside of the US, Fury would have had his hand raised as the winner. So, if you find that a boxer is going toe to toe with their opponent in their hometown, you might want to think twice before betting against them.
  • Never Underestimate the UnderdogComplacency can also have a big impact. Boxing is made up of some of the biggest stars in all of world sport, so when they come up against lesser opponents, the world’s best may just take their foot off the gas. This was the case in 1990 when Buster Douglas knocked out the then-world champion, Mike Tyson, against odds of 42/1. That’s why when it comes to boxing betting, we would never rule out an upset.
  • Check out Recent Form – Boxing stats can be a great source of information and help you to spot trends over time, but recent form is everything.
