Watch: Red Bulls, NYCFC supporters square off before derby

At least there wasn’t a sandwich board … this time.

Shortly before the New York City FC, Red Bulls derby at Yankee Stadium, a group of supporters from either side came together under River Avenue.

And let’s just say it wasn’t a diplomatic affair.

Garbage went flying and tempers flared as rival supporters squared off under the 4 train.

This is just one of several tense encounters witnessed outside of Yankee Stadium today. A group of traveling Red Bull supporters were greeted by three NYCFC supporters hours before the match, forcing local security to separate each faction. Likewise, a group of Red Bull fans were taunted and pushed as they made their way towards the Third Rails’ bar, “The Dugout” on River ave. In a less violent occasion, NYCFC took to the streets to burn Red Bull gear in effigy.

Needless to say, tempers are already running high in the Bronx. And we haven’t even hit warmups yet!
