BetMGM betting app goes live in West Virginia

West Virginians will now be able to bet on sports with BetMGM.

MGM Resorts International and Roar Digital, the joint venture between MGM Resorts and GVC Holdings, announced the launch of the BetMGM mobile sports betting app in West Virginia today.

According to the announcement, the BetMGM app is available in the state through a partnership with The Greenbrier resort.

Scott Butera, President of Interactive Gaming for MGM Resorts, said: “We are pleased to be operating in West Virginia and partnering with The Greenbrier, a historic grand hotel and one of the most storied landmarks in the United States. Sports betting represents a significant opportunity for the MGM Resorts-GVC joint venture; we look forward to bringing our best-in-class mobile technology to additional states where mobile gaming is approved.”

Adam Greenblatt, CEO of Roar Digital, said: “We know the passion for sports in West Virginia, which is why we’re launching BetMGM with the very best features and promotions already up and running. West Virginians will notice the care we’ve put into making this a mobile betting experience for die-hard sports fans and novices alike.”

BetMGM in the US

In November 2019, Yahoo Sports and BetMGM launched a sports betting platform in the state of New Jersey. The Yahoo Sports platform now features betting odds which direct users to the BetMGM online sportsbook where users can place sports wagers. Yahoo’s app can be downloaded on Android and iOS devices.

Prior to the launch of BetMGM in West Virginia, the mobile betting app was only available in the state of New Jersey.

Sports betting in West Virginia

West Virginia was one the first states to move forward with sports betting following the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in 2018. Online betting in West Virginia originally went live in early 2019 with the launch of BetLucky.com, but this app was suspended due to a contractual dispute between Miomni Gaming and Delaware North.

Mobile sports betting returned to West Virginia in August, with the launch of FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook.

West Virginians now have access to several online betting options including DraftKings, FanDuel and now BetMGM.
