New Mexico tribal casino to launch sports betting

The Nevada based company, USBookmaking, announced that it will provide sports betting risk services at the Santa Ana Star Casino & Hotel, a tribal establishment in New Mexico.

The casino’s sportsbook is set to launch next week on 16 October.

However, the state of New Mexico has yet to enact legislation that would legalize sports betting.

On top of this, any legislation proposed will have to consider the tribal gaming compact between the New Mexico tribes and state government which expires in 2037.

Although the compact in place does not specifically mention sports betting, it does include Class III gaming which includes sports betting.

A USBookmaking spokesperson told Sports Handle, that the issue has been researched and all involved are happy to move forward with plans to offer Nevada-style, single-team sports wagering next week.

Vic Salerno, President of USBookmaking, said: “We have found that there is tremendous demand for a Nevada-style retail sports book operation in a multitude of casinos throughout the US. We specialize in the ability to get to market quickly and operate efficiently.

“We have carved out a unique position where we are a very attractive service provider to the many independent casino operations that exist today.”

The opening of the sportsbook will make this the second tribal gaming establishment outside of Nevada to implement sports betting.

There was no mention of implementing mobile sports betting.
