Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles: Odds, Tips, Prop Bets and Predictions for Thursday Night Football

Week two of the NFL season kicks off with the Minnesota Vikings looking to bounce back from a disappointing week one defeat travelling to Philadelphia tonight to play an Eagles team who defeated the Patriots 25-20 in their season opener.

The Vikings went 13-4 last year but looked poor, especially on defence in a game they really should have won at home against a Buccanneers team led by Baker Mayfield last week. They will need to rely on their star offensive performers like Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins and will need a big response from their defence if they are to improve to 1-1 on the season.

The Eagles weren’t perfect themselves last week but found a way to win which is fine, but given how dominant the 49ers and Cowboys looked in week one, they will need to show improvements if they want to retain their status as kings of the NFC.

A.J Brown’s reception line feels a bit low considering the level of the secondary he is facing and considering he caught seven balls in week one, so the over has been targeted there. We’ve gone for Cousins’ Passing attempts over because of the potential game script he faces, and the fact the Eagles secondary is a lot weaker than their defensive line. We’re also backing Jalen Hurts to go over 46.5 yards on the ground – he averaged over 50 per game last season and his week one output of 57 yards on 11 carries showed that he isn’t going to stop running this year after his big contract.

The Eagles have been exceptional at home ever since Jalen Hurts became their starter and while they weren’t their usual eclectic selves in week one, they still won and covered the spread against Bill Belichick, which is no mean feat. They should cause this Vikings’ defence some serious trouble through the air with A.J Brown, Devonta Smith and Dallas Goedert, leading them to a fairly comfortable victory.

Score Prediction:
Eagles 31 – Vikings 20
