The 49ers have an argument for the best team in the NFL through two games, having pulled off comfortable victories on the road against the Steelers in Week 1 and the Rams last week. They will be high on confidence heading into their first home game of the season, with Brock Purdy looking surgical, Christian McCaffrey playing as well as he’s ever played, and the defence looking unbelievable.

The Giants got destroyed in Week 1 by the Cowboys 40-0 and then at half-time last week looked like they were about to be on the end of a chastening defeat to the bottom-dwelling Arizona Cardinals when they were 20-0 down at half-time. Thankfully for them, Daniel Jones turned it on in the second half and led his team to a memorable victory.

If the Giants are to get close to the Niners in this game, there is no doubt they will have to be vastly improved on their performances so far this season. Their defence has given up 136.5 rushing yards per game so far this season, which a bad omen considering they face arguably the best running back in the league this week, and they got lit up in the passing game by Josh Dobbs last week. 

On offence, they have six quarters without scoring a point before turning it on in the second half last week, but this 49ers defence is a different beast in comparison to the lowly Cardinals. The Niners boast a star studded defence with difference makers across the defensive line, awesome linebacker play and a stout secondary. If Purdy can play the mistake-free football he has shown so far, it’s hard to see anything other than a comfortable Niners win.

This game feels like it could be one of those classic one-sided Thursday Night drubbings. The 49ers match up very well with this Giants team who have been really quite poor on both sides of the ball until a late surge last week that is missing Saquon Barkley. The 49ers went 8-1 last year at home and Brock Purdy has a habit of putting up impressive numbers at Levi’s stadium and has kicked on to a higher level this season. 

We’re expecting the Niners to to take the lead early, meaning their defence can pin their ears back and get after Jones, while he has to beat the 49ers through the air. Barkley is a huge miss and the Giants would have been huge underdogs even without their star running back. It could be a long night for the G-Men.
